Cost-effective and easy-to-use data logging

Approximately $50 billion (USD) is wasted every year due to cargo damages. This loss includes all types of goods – pharmaceuticals, food, chemicals and more. This waste not only hurts suppliers’ and recipients’ profitability and productivity, but it’s also bad for the environment.

Finnish startup, Logmore, is taking a big data and Internet of Things (IoT) approach to solving this problem on a global scale. Their cost-effective and easy-to-use data logging service uses a dynamic QR code to help avoid reclamations, disputes and waste. The service aims to ensure that goods arrive safely at their intended destinations.

Users will be able to recognize spoilage or damage during shipping or storage. The dynamic QR codes can measure changes in temperature, humidity, shocks, ambient light, tilt and location. The state-of-the-art sensor technology is affordable with packages starting at 1 EUR a month.

This technology can help users across many different industries. Non-governmental organizations who rely on the safe delivery of vaccines will have the assurance that medicines they receive are still high-quality. Food suppliers who need to keep their perishable items at a certain temperature will have the guarantee they meet food quality guidelines.

Co-founder Antti Tapio came up with the idea for Logmore while chopping firewood in preparation for winter (although this is such a stereotypical Finnish activity that perhaps this is where all Finnish startup ideas come from). Tapio brought his business ideas to Janne Juhala and Niko Polvinen to develop superior technology that had a unique focus on the user experience.

Financing received from venture capital firm Icebreaker will help Logmore continue improving their tech and expand their customer footprint globally. Looking forward Logmore is focused on the potential for artificial intelligence to revolutionize the logistics industry and believe its data can play a large role in this development.
