Icebreaker Pre-Founder Project, Fall 2017 – Apply now

Elevator pitch

If you’re thinking about starting or joining a startup, or have just started, the Icebreaker Pre-Founder Project is the best place to begin.

The goal of the Pre-Founder Project is to have a good time with an ambitious and diverse group of people, while learning and working together on new ideas and startups. The time commitment you put into the Pre-Founder Project is up to you. We guarantee you’ll have a fun experience and “graduate” with a chunk of new buddies, best practices and lessons learned. If everything goes like in Strömsö, and you need funding, we’ll invest €50k-350k into your project.

Our first Pre-Founder Project (spring 2017) was a blast and we ended up investing in two outstanding teams: Sellforte and Osgenic.

Content

The participants will meet at five afterwork sessions where we have insightful presentations, practical workshops and interesting discussions.

In addition to the other participants, you’ll get support from the Icebreaker team and our great lineup of successful and experienced guests such as Monty Widenius (founder of MySQL, acquired by Sun Microsystems for $1 billion), Kristo Ovaska (founder of Smartly.io), Mikko Honkanen (founder of Vainu.io, one the fastest growing Finnish B2B companies), and many more.

How to apply

Participation is free of charge, but you need to meet the following criteria: you have 5+ years of relevant work experience and you have proven top-tier skills within your domain/field.

You can have an early-stage startup already, but many also join without a startup, idea or team in order to find them from the Pre-Founder Project.

Send your short and sweet application via this form before 30.9.2017. Don’t wait too long – we only have 50 spaces and will fill them as qualified applications come in.

The longer version

Who is this for?

You only need to meet the following criteria: you have 5+ years of relevant work experience and you have proven top-tier skills within your domain/field.

You might have already founded your startup or still working at your day job. You don't necessarily have a startup idea but have some clue of the direction you want to take. You want to find team members or you're interested in finding a team to join. You're just looking for inspiration, want to get to know new people and see where it takes you. All of the above are good reasons to apply.

Diversity plays an important role

You can expect to meet people with different skills and industry experience. Some have backgrounds in software development or research whereas others are great in business development, marketing, design and other disciplines.

What’s in it for you?

The time committment you put into the Pre-Founder Project is up to you.  We guarantee you’ll have a fun experience and “graduate” with a chunk of new buddies, best practices and lessons learned. If everything goes like in Strömsö, and you need funding, we’ll invest €50k-350k into your project.

During the Pre-founder Project you'll get an opportunity to:

✔️  Have fun while meeting new people with diverse skillsets and experiences

✔️  Develop your or someone else’s idea, and get closer to building something impactful

✔️  Learn a thing or two about the do's and don’ts of a software-driven startups' first 12 months; from scratch to series-A

✔️  Raise funding from us for your software-driven startup, if you have developed an unique idea with a great team.

✔️  Get feedback from potential customers and partners

✔️  Get help from experienced functional experts (Sales, Software, Marketing, etc.)

✔️ Acquire first customers through the extended network of the group and icebreaker.vc

✔️  Find and get introductions to potential co-founders and recruits

✔️  Get contacts to relevant industry players and advisors

✔️  Get support from a large network of founders who have been through the same experience

Why are we doing this?

As we announced in February this year in Icebreaker’s first blog post ever, one of our main goals is to help ambitious individuals build new software driven startups – even from scratch.

Business-wise we aim to make investments (á €50k-350k) in great teams that have unique ideas and execution capabilities for software-driven startups. We consider this project to be a homerun if we make even one good investment at the end of the project.
